We asked Keerthy Rangan, an Emory QSS and Biology student who is conducting undergraduate research under the mentorship of Ian Sicher, about her life and experience working with us since the Summer of 2024.
What excites you the most about conducting research in the Quiroz Lab?
When applying for labs, I knew that being in a biomedical engineering lab would be a great fit for me. Although I did not know too much about intrinsically disordered proteins coming into the lab, after conducting research in the Quiroz lab for the past few months, I have been able to learn how IDP’s properties impact human health and biotechnology. I am very interested in learning more about their applications as I continue here. Also, as someone who is interested in learning computational biology techniques too, conducting research on IDPs gives me an opportunity to explore the duality of wet lab and dry lab technique at the lab.
When you are not studying or doing research, what do you like to do?
When I am not conducting research and studying, I usually like to try new boba places and cafes, play the piano, and binge watch sitcoms. I am also currently finishing different certifications on data analytics and data science.
